Octopus in tomato sauce - Recipe

Ingredients:

  • Octopus

    1 1/2 lb
  • Onions

    1
  • Red Bell Peppers

    2
  • Tomato Sauce

    2 15 oz cans
  • Extra Virgin Olive Oil

    1 tbsp
  • Salt

    to taste
  • Black Pepper

    to taste

Cooking Directions:

Prepare the octopus as described in How to Cook an Octopus.

Finely shred the onion and briefly cook it with the olive oil on medium heat.

Cut red peppers and tomatoes. Add them to the onions.

Cook for a few minutes then add 1 cup of water. Add salt as needed and cook thoroughly for about 30 minutes.

Cut the octopus tentacles in slices and the head in strips.

Blend the tomato sauce previously prepared and add the cooked octopuses.

Serve with toasted sliced bread rubbed on one side with a garlic clove.


Tips:

Cooking the octopus is not easy. If you want to have a tender an delicious octopus, carefully strike it with a meat tenderizer before the boiling step. For additional information, see the article How to Cook an Octopus.
